Derek Kilmer is currently Burns & Wilcox Associate Managing Director of Michigan, overseeing three departments, Commercial, Professional and Personal. He also actively producers his own book of professional Lines in Michigan, where his team of 6 individuals specializes in healthcare, E&O, management liability, A&E and cyber/tech/media and FI. With 10 years of industry experience, Derek has spent his insurance career solely with Burns & Wilcox, thriving in the expertise of Medical, Architect Engineering, Errors & Omissions, and Cyber Privacy and Technology Media. Derek is best known for his coverage expertise and comparisons, relationship management, as well as his involvement in program development.
 
Derek's efforts have earned him Inside P&C's Brokering Rising Star of the Year 2022 and Burns & Wilcox Professional Team of the Year 2022. Derek is also a proud 2018 Kaufman Emerging Leaders Program graduate. Derek graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Soon after graduation, he began his career in the insurance industry as an Associate Underwriter with Burns & Wilcox in 2014. Derek is currently a member of YIP, a subsector of PIA in Michigan. Additionally, he is involved with Fleece & Thank You, a non-profit organization that supports children facing illness as well as their families.
